In 1982, in Yugoslavia, new wave rock band Idols sang about Cenozoic, the geological era of our time. One era was at its setting and what followed in 1989 was the historical event named „the fall of communism“. MONTAЖ$TROJ was founded in that exact year. The process of transition that followed did not fulfill expectations of a better life. We live in society of injustice and uncertain future.
25 years after its founding MONTAЖ$TROJ represents retro-chick, deconstructed and wrapped in contemporary pop trends. Music video COMMUNISM does not speak of the past, it speaks about craving for righteousness of society. Inspiration for the video came from an idea which is waiting to be fulfilled in the future. The time has come to reflect on a whole new era.
COMMUNISM is a fragment of a multimedia project called WHERE’S THE REVOLUTION, SCUM? The audio-visual piece is composed of quotations and paraphrases from pop songs and visual fragments of a recent piece created in MONTAЖ$TROJ production. This project emerged from the belief that music can be shared among people without anyone’s loss.
COMMUNISM is intended for those fed up with contemporary pop music that serves blunting our contact with social reality. Although music can’t induce social change, it can invoke them.
