The exhibition titled IN FORMATION IN LIQUIDATION resulted from 5 years of MONTAЖ$TROJ’s efforts to collect photographs, newspaper articles, video footage and project documentation dating from the period between 1980 and 1995 with the intention to stimulate a discussion on the role of public health and the consequences of its liberalization in Croatia through the prism of the history of the never-finished University Hospital Zagreb.
Also exhibited are propaganda brochures for public debate on both referendums on the introduction of a voluntary local tax for the citizens of Zagreb intended for the hospital, as well as the results of the voting. Four video displays show archival footage, namely from the polling stations, of the laying of the foundation stone, from the construction site from 1982 to 1991 and from sessions of the management board for the construction of the hospital in Blato, Zagreb. Headlines from Zagreb newspapers (“Vjesnik” and “Večernji List”) serve as media chronicles of the investment with the publication dates accompanied by handwritten exchange rates of the dinar, and later the kuna, against the German mark.
The central piece of the exhibition is a model of the hospital, the work of Štefan Kacin, Jurij Princes and Bogdan Spindler (of the architectural organization Biro 71, Domažale, Slovenia), which bears valuable witness to the building’s uniqueness. This is its second public display after it was first exhibited in March 1984 at Old City Hall before construction began.
The exhibition was opened at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb on May 11, 2020, in accordance with special circumstances caused by the coronavirus.
